What is an Intercessor
Watchmen, Intercessors & Gatekeepers
January 14, 2025
Spiritually speaking, watchmen, intercessors, and gatekeepers each have distinct but interconnected roles within the Kingdom of God. All three are vital to guarding, protecting, and advancing God’s purposes, but they serve in different capacities.
Let’s break down their roles:
Intercessors
An intercessor stands in the gap through prayer, pleading before God on behalf of others. Their primary focus is on connecting heaven to earth, praying for God’s will to manifest and for people to align with His purposes.
Key Responsibilities:
· Standing in the Gap: They intercede on behalf of individuals, nations, or situations (Ezekiel 22:30).
· Persistent Prayer: Like the widow in Luke 18:1-8, intercessors pray without ceasing until they see a breakthrough.
· Spiritual Warfare: Intercessors often engage in battling principalities and powers through prayer (Ephesians 6:12-18).
· Birthing God’s Purposes: Their prayers can “birth” new movements, ministries, or revivals (Isaiah 66:8).
Scriptural Examples:
· 1 Timothy 2:1: “Most of all, I’m writing to encourage you to pray with gratitude to God. Pray for all men with all forms of prayers and requests as you intercede with intense passion.
Difference from Watchmen:
While intercessors pray, their focus is on petitioning heaven and advocating for God’s mercy, blessing, or intervention. Watchmen, on the other hand, are more focused on discerning and proclaiming warnings or revelations.
